Career development and audition training

Since he founded his own agency Herwald Artists International, Thomas Herwald has been true to a philosophy that is rare in today’s opera world – to carefully develop singers and conductors long term for important assignments at international theatres and enabling them to build and sustain lasting careers.

Herwald Artists is active worldwide and regularly works with the leading German and international theatres, while striving to find the best opportunities at all levels for their singers and conductors to develop and grow in their artistry and career.

Thomas Herwald was born in Westphalia and studied art history, history, German and archaeology at the universities of Karlsruhe and Munich, graduating with a master’s degree. Simultaneously he studied singing with KS Friedrich Lenz from the Bavarian State Opera.

Thomas Herwald takes a strong interest in the development of emerging singers and the ongoing changes in the opera world and is regularly invited as a speaker and faculty member for panel discussions and masterclasses to universities and young artists’ programs. Since 1995 he has given masterclasses for students of the Academy of the Vocal Arts, Philadelphia as well as at various German schools of music.
